This morning, I decided to suck it up and pay the, um, "ransom", needed to bird the Sanibel Lighthouse area in Lee County since the reports from yesterday were so favorable. It costs something like $20 in gas from my house, plus the $6 toll for the Sanibel Causeway + $2/hour to park. I was there 3 hours. The costs were worth it! It was a great morning for the birds and many birders present, some old friends I hadn't seen in a long time. Like yesterday, the place was hopping with many species of warblers, tanagers, orioles, grosbeaks, buntings, swallows, etc. Here's my highlight list for the Sanibel Lighthouse. Others may wish to add to the list if they have anything to add:

Blue-winged Warbler
Tennessee Warbler
Yellow Warbler
Magnolia Warbler
Black-throated Green Warbler
Prairie Warbler
Black-and-white Warbler
American Redstart
Prothonotary Warbler
Ovenbird
Common Yellowthroat
Hooded Warbler
Barn Swallow
Bank Swallow
Northern Rough-winged Swallow
Purple Martin
Chimney Swift
Red-eyed Vireo
Swainson's Thrush
Baltimore Oriole
Orchard Oriole
Indigo Bunting
Painted Bunting
Scarlet Tanager
Summer Tanager
Yellow-billed Cuckoo
Blue Grosbeak
Rose-breasted Grosbeak
Northern Cardinal
Ruby-throated Hummingbird
Pileated Woodpecker
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Fish Crow
Eastern Wood-Pewee
Great Crested Flycatcher
Eastern Kingbird
Scissor-tailed Flycatcher (seen by others)
Dickcissel (seen by others)

After leaving Sanibel, I decided to stop at Pelican Bay Community Park here in Naples. Since Naples doesn't have any real migrant traps, it's as close as we get to one. There I saw the following species:

Worm-eating Warbler
Northern Parula
Black-and-white Warbler
Prairie Warbler
Yellow-billed Cuckoo
Summer Tanager
Rose-breasted Grosbeak
Brown Thrasher
Great Crested Flycatcher
Swainson's Thrush

A great day of birding in SW Florida!
