I was at the Village Green (the park in the Village of Key Biscayne) at about sunset the day before Thanksgiving. There is a large Kapok tree in the back of the park that is home to several large communal nests of Monk Parakeets. A Red-shouldered Hawk was in the tree, and the parakeets were sounding them alarm and flying back and forth between their nests and some nearby powerlines. Sure enough, after a bunch of near-hits (or near-misses), the hawk grabbed a parakeet and flew off with his meal, leaving behind a quieter flock and a shower of green feathers.
