Goldfinches unusual?

I've noticed the goldfinches are getting a lot of attention here, and since this is my first winter in South Florida (I moved from Ohio this fall) I was wondering; is it unusual to see so many goldfinches here in the winter? I've seen/heard them almost everywhere in the past week, including Lucky Hammock, the everglades, and East Greynolds in North Miami. Brings back nice memories of home, as did the robin and ruby-crowned kinglet.
