Goldfinch invasions have historically occurred in the Miami area roughly every 5 years. The timing is somewhat variable. Before the mid 80's, smaller numbers of Goldfinches were present in non-invasion years. More recently, they have been very scarce or even absent in non-invasion years.

Based on the reports I've seen, this is a smaller invasion than 02-03. Of course, the winter is still young.
