A more important finding in today s walk was that we observed a beautiful male Cape May Warbler in spectacular spring plumage right in the middle of the flock of Waxwings! This was one warbler vs. 37+ waxwings! Does this refute Toe's "Waxwing Eating Warbler" Theory! Or could it be that Toe's theory is correct and that Cape Mays have actually evolved aposematism and the rufous on yellow facial patch on the Cape Mays is recognized by the waxwings as a warning coloration and do not eat THEM! Wow! What I cannot tell you is if the Cape Mays actually taste bad. Since this is Toe s theory maybe he can give us some insight on the gastronomical qualities of the Cape May Warbler.
