I wish I could keep the buntings- they have entered the yard only briefly, only last year I had one (an indigo) stay all winter, until early May. My two hummingbirds haven't been seen for a few days. Yesterday, there were 2 Baltimore orioles, I think they were the ones that have been wintering the last two years. The spot-breasted pair are still coming to the yard- since 2008- but since January one of the pair is a full 'spotted' adult, but much lighter colored than it's mate. The other two were both about the same shade of orange. I wonder if they have been the same two (and they have produced young the last few years), or the lighter one (or even both) are new. They frequent the same plants and go about the same foraging routine, so maybe one molted into a lighter color.. Besides a new male cardinal, nothing else- haven't seen any migrants the last few days!
