Board of Commissioners have approved zoning for the wind farm. Most likely a complete go partially due to lack of support from the birding community. It is really unfortunate that this has happened and it was really tough to sit there and listen to Wind Capitol spout out numerous untruths about the affects this wind farm will have on our resident and migratory birds.
They only collected one year of data during a severe drought year and call it representative of the abundance and diversity of birds found there. You would be laughed at if you tried to publish one year of data in any respectable journal. I have a lot of questions on the way the data was collected and how those who collected the data feel it represents that area of the EAA. I was wondering if Wes Biggs or David Simpson could chime in as they were the ones hired by the wind farm group to collect the data.
I feel as an avid birder and professional ornithologist a responsibility to be a part of all aspects of bird conservation. It has been only been in the past couple years that I have become active in the community as well as politics. It as easy as showing up to local government meetings to show support in what you believe in. I recommend you take on this responsibility as well if you wish to continue to enjoy the spectacular bird diversity Florida has to offer. Most people do not understand what is that we are passionate about so you must help them understand.
