My wintering birds are still here. I thought the Oven bird had left till I spotted him early this a.m. turning the leaves along my back fence. I have two hummers that have been here . The immature male is all decked out in his flamboyant iridescence, a bright orange-red gorget that only weeks ago had been mostly white with nearly invisible pin point dots. The transformation was intriguing. To be able to follow the same birds week after week is what makes yard birds so facinating. Today I first heard, then saw, the Bronzed Cowbird(male) pecking at his image in the car door mirror. I have not seen the female yet. Last year I was able to obtain a rather shaky video of this bird's unique display. Two days ago while bike riding, I stopped at a Pink Tabebuia Tree loaded with pale pink trumpet shaped blooms. A warbler was calling incessantly. It turned out to be one of the most beautiful Black and Whites I have ever seen. His coloration was unusually vibrant and he was densely feathered.---Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come.
