I read somewhere one of the main factors that signals the start of migration is the length of the day. Someone on the TAS Birdboard mentioned the conditions (ie food availability,weather etc.) where the birds winter and that occur in their flyways are important too. Hopefully whatever happens will work in our favor to see the birds. All the right conditions (primarily weather) came together for us Oct. 2011 in that amazing fallout!
