Change in wind direction brought birds to Cape Florida this week. Yesterday, Michelle Davis, Liz Golden, Larry Manfredi and I had 19 warbler species, with today's Bay-breasteds bringing the total to 20. Of interest: Blue-winged, Tennessee (numerous), Chestnut-sided, Magnolia (7+), Bay-breasted, Cape May (numerous Wed.), Hooded (5+) and a female Wilson's.
Also of interest: 6 Blue-winged Teal, White-crowned Pigeon, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Eastern Wood-Pewee (6+), Acadian Flycatcher, 3 vireo species, including Yellow-throated, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Painted and Indigo Buntings, Summer and Scarlet Tanagers.
Today was a 4-thrush day with Veery, Wood Thrush (4+), Gray-cheeked (numerous Wed.) and Swainson's (numerous). Large movements of Bobolinks and Chimney Swifts continue. Raptors included: Northern Harrier, Cooper's, Red-tailed and Broad-winged Hawks, Merlin, Peregrine Falcon and American Kestrel, with 13 lined up on 1 wire this afternoon.
