Coopers Hawk can sound sort of similar -- hard to tell apart.... Was the bird brownish or more of a gray-and-white? I have been fooled by these before -- particularly since you heard an alarm call and most recordings are near nests....
I could believe a Goshawk after this weekend's storms but 10 days ahead is a bit odd....
Whatever it was it was, I am certain, interesting to see the interaction!
