Your description sounds like Red-winged Starling which I have seen in South Africa. I do not have experience with Tristam's but the field guide for the middle east I have used in the Emirates describes Tristam's wing color as rust while Red winged is red. Birds of Europe by Mullarney, et al also depicts Tristam's rustier.
