The majority of these sightings are in ENP during winter, but the same general ratio seems to hold on sightings at Shark Valley and metro Dade locations (Matheson, Barnes, Virginia Key, Kendall etc.)

I too have always wondered who came up with the ratio of dark to light morph Short-tailed Hawks. I have seen a mostly even split between the two morphs based on my observations. I have had days where I have seen up to 9 or more birds that were almost all light morph birds. On other days I have seen mostly dark morph birds. In general though I think that it is almost an even split between the two morphs.
