Northern Waterthrush Question

What are the habitats to a northern waterthrush? I ve seen a few (7) in mangroves, near the water at the Deering Estate.
I was told that, is the wrong habitat, for a Northern waterthrush. And they are most common in hammocks.
I have seen this bird in hammock and in the mangroves near the water (extremely close to the water)
Does anyone know if they would be near water in mangroves or not.
And, no I m not seeing a female red-winged blackbird.
