Funny you should mention that - this fall, I was on US 1 in bumper-to-bumper traffic and watched a cattle egret glide over the lane, land on the hood of a car and remain there even after traffic began to move again. Eventually, it casually lifted off and perched in the branches of an overhanging tree. Regarding your Q - it is a toss up...
