For those of you who have not seen Eastern (Yellow) Palm Warbler, there is also an exquisite Eastern Palm gracing the northwest corner of C-Loop in the Flamingo Campground where the Lesser Nighthawks come out at dusk (1 showed up earlier (5:45 p.m) than normal and dissappeared behind a hammock). Michelle Davis found the Palm during the Coot Bay CBC on December 30 and it was relocated during the TAS fieldtrip January 5. It is hanging around the area where the Brazilian Peppers (Schinus terebinthifolius)sp? were removed, which is now mulch. While traipsing around in the Saltwort I also flushed a Marsh Wren, House Wren and Swamp Sparrow into a dried out clump of Schinus 20 yards out(north) from the edge of the mulch. The Eastern was seen at very close range and was in breeding plumage, complete with chestnut cap and chestnut streaks in the flanks. Probably as close to a Churchill Palm as you will ever get in Florida. Fortunately, I did not tear my hotpants, but scratched my legs up pretty good. I recommend long pants and a good pair of waterproof boots for any future traipsing. Forunately, J.W. Dundee's Honey Brown was on hand to slake my thirst. P.S. It may be necessary to hang out with Michelle if you want to see this race of Palm Warbler. Life is good......
