"Collecting invasive species" implies that the introduced parrots and parakeets are equivalent to real invasive species such as pythons and Brazilian Pepper which do threaten our natives.

One has to remember that a lot of these parrots and parakeets are here because of human poaching in their native ranges, some of which are highly threatened such as Red-crowned Parrot or extirpated from large portions of their range (many macaws). It has always shocked me how apathetic birders are towards the misfortune of these birds.

Although I do not advocate that we should embrace these exotic bird species, we as birders should still appreciate and try to learn about these resourceful and intelligent creatures that have managed to carve out a living in an exotic land, where they are sadly subject to the same persecution they suffered in their places of origin.

I would definitely call it poaching.
