Dan you got all the species we have seen at the lake since we started checking it this fall/winter.

To anyone planning on visiting Graham Dairy Lake in search of the Horned Grebes please keep in mind that the lake is located alongside a private business park. We started checking the lake over a month ago and were already confronted by one of business owners. He expressed concern about the number of birder/photographers that came out to look for the Long-tailed Duck last year and did not want anyone disrupting their business. The major concern was birders taking up parking spots which they reserve for their customers. So as a reminder please use your best birder etiquette and only park in the bend of the parking lot as to not disturb normal business or irritate the business owners which did call out the police several times last year. The best time to visit the lake and not interrupt business is on Saturday and Sunday when most of the businesses are closed. Also as a heads up the Miami Lakes Police stakes out Commerce Way, the road that leads you to the business park. There are several undercover vehicles in the area and we see multiple drivers ticketed on a daily basis, so stick to the 30 mph speed limit if you don t want to pay up.

The Horned Grebes have been present at the lake for at least two weeks now and don t seem to be leaving. It may not hurt to wait until the weekend to check out the lake so that birders do not lose access. Some of the business owners are OK with birders visiting the lake so long as they act responsible and courteous. There is one particular owner that did already tell us that he would call the police again this year if people start taking up his parking spaces reserved for his customers. If we all follow the business owners request to park in right place and not to interrupt their normal business we can all continue to view birds on the lake.

Nature is Awesome
