There was no official birdwalk on Thanksgiving eve day but I was curious to see how many, if any, people would show up anyway. Well wouldn't you know that there were three others who didn't know there was no walk but we all decided to do our own and I was elected leader.

We started with some great close-up views of a single female Hooded Merganser (where were her friends from the day before?). Further out in the same impoundment were Wood Storks; Great and Cattle Egrets; Great Blue, Little Blue (both immature and adult), and Tri-colored Herons; White and Glossy Ibises; several groups of Blue-winged Teals (no Cinnamon); a single Wilson's Snipe and a Killdeer; and several Anhingas. I'm sure I'm forgetting others -- but these were ALL in the same not-so-huge impoundment. They were joined soon after by a spectacularly colored Roseate Spoonbill who knew it was missing a great party and flew in so as not to miss anything.

We picked up several warblers (not as many as last week) and other small birds as we continued our walk. At one point there was a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers sharing their pole with a Red-bellied Woodpecker.

Please feel free to browse some photos that I've taken on our Wednesday walks but I'm still selecting and uploading more.
