I'm posting my reply here (rather than off-list) so any others who are interested can see my reply.
The Hooded Merganser was in the very first impoundment (C6) on your right as you drive in to the Marsh Trail parking lot. She was feeding along the diagonal one-way road that leaves the parking lot (not the one you drive in on) -- no more than 10 or 15 feet away from the road.
The Eastern Screech Owl was in an owl box on the Cypress Swamp Boardwalk. Walking clockwise from the Visitor's Center (not necessarily the way most people go), it is on your left about 25 feet from the boardwalk. If you get to the owl box that is practically on the boardwalk, you've gone too far.
