I totally agree with Rock. Over here in Collier County, Winter Wren is listed on two Collier County checklists, both authored by Audubon shorebird expert Ted Below (1991 & 2007). The 2007 edition is also co-authored by Terry Doyle & Doug Suitor. With regard to Winter Wren, both Stevenson & Anderson (The Birdlife of Florida, 1994) and Florida Bird Species: An Annotated List by William B. Robertson, Jr. & Glen E. Woolfenden (1992) state that virtually any birds identified as Winter Wrens south of Lake Okeechobee are extremely dubious. Here's what Robertson & Woolfenden state: "Perhaps casually further south [south of Pinellas, Osceola & Brevard Cos.] but most reports from the southern peninsula do not inspire confidence." Stevenson & Anderson are even more emphatic: "[Ted] Below's assessment that Winter Wren is uncommon through spring, Collier Co. (check-list 1991), is surely in error." Winter Wren, until recently, was also listed numerous times from the Corkscrew Sanctuary boardwalk checklist. This is certainly in error as well and the species has been deleted from that checklist.
