Inspired by posts about sparrow migration, I spent about 45 min at the C-357 Sparrow Fields today to look for some of the locale's namesake. Either it is too early or the brisk winds kept them down, as it was extremely quiet along the dike save for some Indigo Buntings, Common Yellowthroats, and Palm Warblers.

Raptors were omnipresent, with about a dozen Northern Harriers hunting the fields, two Red-tailed Hawks, two Sharp-shinned Hawks, and three American Kestrels.

Most interesting to me were two Scissor-tailed Flycatchers and a Western Kingbird on the snags right near the entrance area. It is the first time I record either of these species in this part of Miami-Dade county.
