There were no sparrows at Lucky Hammock or surroundig fields on Saturday. Sparrows haven't made it down here in numbers yet, so I'm not surprised none were seen yesterday.

As for the theory of Harriers, some of my best sparrow days have come with tons of harriers in the area, so I don't believe the number of sparrows seen is directly proportional to the number of harriers present, since both these species always occur down here at the same time in the same fields. You can recall that great day where we had tons of sparrows in great diversity, and at one point we counted 43 Swainson's Hawks in flight at the same time, plus many more running around in the same field we were sparrowing, plus many harriers, red-shouldereds, and kestrels all in the area. Didn't seem to keep us from getting ~8 sparrow species in good numbers.

A more reasonable explanation is probably that SPARROWS HAVEN'T MADE IT DOWN HERE YET. Nothing to get worried about; it's only Oct. 25. Give it a week or two and you'll see, they'll be here. No big woop.
