Enjoyed following the migrant and general bird sightings throughout Miami-Dade County, especially from the two young birders, Alex and Helder - keep up the good work! There are two sided by side parks in northeast Dade County that can be pretty productive that I check on a weekly basis - Arch Creek/Enchanted Forests Parks in North Miami. Even reporting the trends in the more common bird species is important, especially with the alarming critical loss of habitats in Southeast Florida. Sighting on Saturday, August 7, 2004:
Louisiana Waterthrush - west side in lowland area
N. Waterthrush
American Redstart
Black & White Warbler
Yellow-throated Warbler
Prairie Warbler
Prohonotary Warbler - trail/Arch Creek Park
Red-eyed Vireo
Barn Swallow
Purple Martin
Bank Swallow
Yellow-billed Cuckoo
Spotted Oriole
Coopers Hawk - Imm. (All summer)
Tri-colored Heron
Red-bellied Woodpecker
N. Cardinal
Boat-tailed Grackle
Cm. Grackle
MOckingbird
Blue Jay
Blue-gray Gnatcher
Green Iguanas have apparantly invaded the Arch Creek area. Several in mangroves along the creek, could be a potential threat to nesting Green-backed Herons.
