Roxanne and I birded A.D. Barnes this afternoon soon as the weather improved. We visited a Trema Tree loaded with small bright orange berries located to the trailer next to the Nature Center building. The Trema Tree is just South of the pale yellow trailer and hangs over the path. We stood about 25-30 feet from the tree and watched all the birds gorging themselves with berries. There are quite a few other Tremas throughout the Park but this one was just loaded with birds. We saw three Scarlet Tanagers, several Bay-breasted Warblers, three Rose-breasted Grosbeaks,Tennesee Warbler, Red-eyed Vireos and many Black-throated Blue Warblers all feeding at the same time. We just stood and watched in amazement. It was quite a spectacle! Birds were constantly flying in from the surrounding trees/shrubs. What made it special was the great views you had of the birds as this tree is quite open and the lighting excellent. Anyone visiting this Park should definitely check this tree. Hopefully the weather conditions will remain conducive the next day or so to continue to see these birds.
