Joe Barros and I birded Lucky Hammock and the Annex for 4-hours this morning after running into Toe, Trey, John and the Manfredi's - Phillip is my favorite of the two- we kicked up some great birds, including the Tropical/Couch's Kingbird in a leafless Gumbo Limbo on the west side of Lucky Hammock in the company of two Great Crested Flycatchers. While trying to coax the Tropical back out a very drab Bell's Vireo popped up in the same tree.

Other highlights at the Annex were a Rose-breasted Grosbeak, White-tailed Kite, Short-tailed and Swainson's Hawks and many warblers. We tried to turn a confused fallen warbler into a Blackpoll but after looking at dozens of photos on the net, I detrmined that it was a 1st winter female Blackburnian.

While at Lucky Hammock we ran into two young birders from North Carolina who showed us photos of a male Masked Duck that they had taken yestarday at the Key West Botanical Garden. Workers there said it had been seen for two weeks. Maybe Carl Goodrich or Mark Hedden could check it out.

Life is good................as we hoisted Chimay Blue, Samuel Adams Octoberfest and Red Tail Ales as our celebratory libations.
