Let's see who knows which movie this is from. Trey and I started around 7:15 this morning just outside the park hoping to spot the Tropical/Couch's Kingbird reported yesterday. We didn't see it so we talked about going to the Annex to try for Yellow-breasted Chat. Larry and Philip showed up before we even got back in the car and told us that Philip was so inspired by the movie "The Big Year" that they were doing a big day. We went to the Annex and had lots of birds flying around, but they were mostly Palm Warblers flying north. We did get the Chat, a calling Least Flycatcher, a Blue-winged Warbler and a few other things. Larry went into the park with Philip, while Trey and I checked Lucky Hammock on the way out. We later checked Castellow Hammock and Sadowski, but those places were pretty dead. I was home early, but later went to Barnes, arriving just before 4:00. My first bird was a Gay-cheeked Thrush, followed shortly by a Blackburnian. I called Larry and they came over, quickly finding a Bay-breasted with some bay on the flanks! Carlos came a little later and the number of birds seemed to increase as it got later. The light was horrible, and it seemed like any minute the sky would open up with rain, which it finally did. Taking photos was impossible this afternoon. Tomorrow is promising to be a very good day if the birds stick around. The TAS walk should be very productive.

The day's list:

Warblers -
Blue-winged
Tennessee
Orange-crowned
Parula
Magnolia
Black-throated Blue
Black-throated Green
Blackburnian
Yellow-throated
Pine
Prairie

Hooded
Yellow-breasted Chat

and,

Least Flycatcher
White-eyed, Red-eyed, and Yellow-throated Vireos

Wow, imagine what we'd be seeing if migration was good!
