This morning we birded a small portion of campus for about 30 minutes, finding enough migrants to keep us busy. We started off with BOBOLINK as we walked onto an overgrown field, just then a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK flew up and perched with its meal. We were sidetracked by all the Crescents, Skippers, Peacocks and other butterfly that were flying around. While observing the butterflies we heard some warbler chips and took of in search. We found a small feeding flock that was made up of a mix of Caribbean migrants. We also had our first of season RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRDS in a Firebush. A light morph SHORT-TAILED HAWK soared overhead showing off its awesome hood which contrasts so nice against its light colored plumage. Here is a list of what we saw and heard.
Red-shouldered Hawk
Short-tailed Hawk
Eastern Wood-Pewee
Cliff Swallow
Barn Swallow
Red-eyed Vireo
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Northern Parula
Yellow-throated Warbler
Black-and-white Warbler
Prairie Warbler
Black-throated Blue Warbler
Worm-eating Warbler
