About the size of a robin. I have seen this species twice and was amazed at it's unusual and striking color. I live in S. Florida in the Hollywood area just south of Ft. Lauderdale where I spotted this bird near a main street and then again in a busy shopping center. The head is solid dark black, the eye is yellow, there is a horizontal moon shaped white area below the head, It has a red-orange breast, irridescent peacock colored back and irridescent blue-green wing with some bands of darker feathers. From looking at bird identifying books, the shape is like a grackle but the colors are startling.
