It should have a yellowish throat, and the primary projections should be longer than on a least and closer to an Acadian. When I saw the one at Matheson, the color on the back and wings reminded my of an Acadian, but the underside was too yellow. An Acadian will not have the yellow throat, so that's your best field mark.
As for time of year, you are more likely to see Acadian I think since they breed in the state, but what do I know. I've only seen one Yellow-bellied myself.
