My indigo is still in the yard as of yesterday. I can't figure if it is a male or female. It has a mottled blue on the breast. The back is completely blue. It also has blue on the shoulders. Otherwise it is brown. The blue is not a strong but more pastel color, except the shoulders, where it is much brighter. Males are persistant singers (even in migration), but this one only gives a call note. Also of interest, afer the storm yesterday there was a white-eyed vireo in the back yard- actually the first I've ever seen in the 2 1/2 years living there.
