The water levels at the boat ramp were so low (I don't think you would be able to paddle the canoe trail) that dozens and dozens of wading birds congregated to munch on the concentrated schools of fish. I even saw a Fish Crow with a fish.
Starlings have taken over the Pileated Woodpecker's cavity in the pole by the bus parking lot. Pine Warblers worked the tops of the Cypresses in the Visitor's parking lot with other warblers seen in the now-standard spots near the Pavilion. A single Black-crowned Night-Heron perched in the Willows where we used to regularly see them. The slate-gray Snail Kite prowled his usual territory periodically swooping down for an Apple Snail.
The Sora (subject of today's photo) is still hanging out in the NW corner of C9 (the third impoundment south of the Marsh Trail parking lot). The young Limpkin with the broken/deformed beak is still with us but now looks smaller and weaker than its siblings. We did not see the Great Horned Owl but that was mostly because Larry, the owl man, did not have time to scout him out. Nor did we see the Eastern Screech Owl, who is reported to have three owlets.
