This past June, I found six Striped Crayfish snakes of various ages at Chekika within forty-five minutes. Previously, I had only seen one live individual, in the fall of '06 at this location. I have also seen Mud Snakes here, along with eleven other species.
Just a general statement to all: if you are driving ENP after dark and not seeing snakes, you are running them over. After birding Flamingo and heading home right after dark, be mindful. I recently saw a friend's picture of an adult Indigo hit between Mahogany Hammock and Paurotis Pond. If you stop for snakes, be mindful that ENP has cracked down on poaching, so even watching a snake from a distance is cause for interrogation to some rangers (and understandably). I know this from several experiences.
