I do not usually post on these kinds of subjects. However, to be fair, John Hutchinson only used the abbreviations for the title of his post. He typed out the full names of the birds in the actual body, eliminating any possible confusion.
It is always handy to have synonyms when writing, which is what banding codes simply are. I think it is perfectly harmless to use banding codes as long as the writer uses the full name of the bird at the beginning of a post.
I do not understand this resistance towards "scientific jargon." Every hobby or sport, may it be aquariums, knitting, or golf, has its own set of jargon. It is up to the participants in these past times to learn these terms.
