One of the downy woodpeckers I photographed today has a very broken beak. Both top and bottom appear severed. Wasn't there a post about someone who asked what to do with the bird that flew into a window or sliding glass door and broke its beak? This one was pecking away with not much success on a palmetto "boot". The mate was drilling very neat holes.
