Things have settled down today -- not the frenetic activity of yesterday. I checked Area A last night from 6-6:30 and added 10+ to each count of parulas, Palms and Prairies, plus 2 Worm-eating Warblers.
This afternoon from 3-4 I checked several survey spots and had 100+ and 77 of Palm and Prairie, respectively. Common Yellowthroats were 30+. In addition: Yellow-throated Vireo, Yellow-breasted Chat, 2 Worm-eating and a Blue-winged Warbler. [The Blue-winged and a Worm-eating were working the south side of intersection of harbor road and the dirt road to Youth Camping Area.]
Several people emailed about yesterday's sightings so I'll pass along my observations. I feel most birds came in yesterday morning. We had 24 hours of WNW winds and when I arrived, birds were everywhere, flying willy-nilly. Palm Warblers were in flocks of 13-18 and Prairies were in groups of 3-4. No birds were singing, quite a few looked disheveled and most were actively feeding or preening, a sign of just arriving. When I visited the lighthouse area, I observed ~20 birds come in from the water and stay low, feeding. No birds were on the paved bike path.
