With 3 checklists still to come in, this report is preliminary. Yesterday's count was very solid, with ~120 species and several more for Count Week. We continue to see Barn Swallows within our count circle and the annual Brown-crested Flycatcher is back again at the "T" of Research Road. Lesser Nighthawks no longer seem reliable on Research Road but we had plenty of Whip-poor-wills.

Morning wind kept our passerine numbers down, though there were lots of Myrtles. Owl diversity was limited to 3 species and though we missed Eastern Screech-Owl, Brian has promised to furnish one for Count Week. There are plenty of screech-owls in our count circle but since we are in a national park, we don't use tapes or play-back. This, along with active Great Horned Owls in the area, probably keeps the little guys quiet.

I'd like to thank all the participants for their tireless efforts, creative itineraries and sense of fun. Dick Cunningham established this wonderful count 11 years ago and its success is due to the participants. THANK YOU TO ALL!
