Dan, Red-tailed Hawks do pretty good here in N. Miami Dade. We have two birds that the spend their winter here in Miami Lakes. During the last three Opa Locka CBC we have counted two Red-taileds that are presumed to be the same birds. We have a friend that lives on the outskirts of Hialeah Gardens right off US 27, we see two Red-taileds regularly on his property. He is in a much more rural area of Miami though. We believe the RT's on his property are nesting. We found nesting evidence as well as both birds carrying twigs to the mass we found up in an Australian Pine. Great-horned Owl also nest on his property, we saw two fledgelings this year!
While working at the S. FIU campus during the last two years we would see Red-taileds almost every week. With that said we wonder, is this evidence of Red-taileds making a come back to urban Miami Dade?
It sure is nice to be able to see these beauties soaring on a almost regular basis here in N. Miami Dade :)
Nature is Awesome
