I had not visited Metrozoo in years. The Amazon exibit with the Giant Hummingbird and the Harpey Eagles are worth the price of admission. The Aviary is very nice also. The Giant Hummer was about the length of a Gray Catbird and he was amazing. He hovered well and seemed to be retrieving small bits of algae/moss growing along the large rock cliff within the aviary. The nectar flowers were in full bloom and you could see close up looks of him feeding.

Today I finally saw my first Ruby-throated Hummingbird feeding from the African hybrid Firebush. I had been told that these flowers did not produce nectar but that does not seem to be the case. A beautiful male Painted Bunting has also visited my feeders since Nov. 2nd. He is by himself and is very cautious. I have had a hawk visit more than once as evidenced by the circular pile of dove feathers appearing in both my front and back yard. This year the birds are hardly visiting my back yard and all gather in the front but I am not sure why this is so.
