My surveys today included Bear Cut Nature Preserve and Crandon Beach. Bear Cut was quiet but a Blackpoll Warbler is still there. A rather late Eastern Kingbird and a Red-eyed Vireo were chowing on abundant fruiting Virginia Creeper.
Wintering Piping Plover numbers are increasing; 26 today, including 2 banded birds. One banded Great Lakes bird wintered here last year. A flagged Sanderling was among the 110 Sanderlings. Also present: Wilson Plover (19, the highest number I've seen on Crandon), Least Sandpiper, Dunlin, Reddish Egret (white morph), Black-bellied Plover, Semipalmated Plover, Lesser Black-backed Gull (8 birds, of which 5 are adults) and a FOS (for me) Herring Gull.
The Great Black-Hawk was on Arthur Lamb, Jr. Road (Virginia Key) yesterday at 3:05 PM. It was on the west side of the road, ~300 yards south of the Y in the road.
