Hello folks,
Bird Day 2010 took place today, October 3, at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden and although I missed the early bird walk, what a great day it turned out to be. The speakers and presentations were top-notch (John Fitzpatrick's talk truly inspired me to do more for our feathered friends). It is always a pleasure to bird with Rafael Galvez. It reminds me of the good ole days but also motivates me to kick it in gear and become more involved.
As Rafael mentioned (and I'm sure Brian or Joe will elaborate on later) it was a very productive warbler day - culminating in a Townsend's Warbler found by Rafael and myself just 50 yards from Fairchild's gift shop entrance, on the east side of Old Cutler Road.
Warblers and Blue-gray gnatcatchers; however, the absence of other passerines was noted (tanagers, orioles, thrushes, flycatchers). Folks, migration does not s*ck. It's on now. Put your game face on and go bird and don't come back until you find a Canada, Nashville, Golden-winged, or Bay-breasted Warbler (Toe and I need these).
The Year Of The Jetty lives - it's aliveeee!
Bird on!
-RJ
