I have never seen true fireflies in the Miami area. In suburban environments around here Pyrophorus luminosus- the 'cucullo' (you know, the cool looking bug with the two green lights) is really common. It is found in the West Indies and Central and South America as well. i saw it in Key West also. Where my parents live, in citrus county, true fireflies (sp?)are common. In the suburban areas in Orlando area not far away, I never saw fireflies or cucullos.
