I asked the same question when I first moved down here. While several locals told me they don't exist, I have seen them with my own eyes. One specific location is the pineland near Mahogany Hammock in Everglades National Park where I've seen them on several occasions. They are never very thick, but I did notice that they glow a much whiter color than the fireflies I'm used to back in Kansas.
