After all my talk of parakeets, I decided to make a count of the parrots seen in the Miami Shores area:

White-winged Parakeets- ~150
Yellow-chevroned Parakeet- 21
Monk Parakeet- 47
flyover aratinga species- several occasions- 25 all together; they were either Mitred, Red-masked, Blue-crowned, and White-eyed
At the "Steve Siegel" roost across the 79th street bridge:

Orange-winged Parrot- 9
Chestnut-fronted Macaw- ~10
Monk Parakeet- 27
White-winged Parakeet- 7
White-eyed Parakeet- 3

I am very exhausted from about 15 miles of biking back and forth throughout Miami Shores, Shorecrest, and across the 79th street bridge, but the birds were worth it!

Also, my annual Christmas Present to the birds around the neighborhood was held today. My neighbor helped pitch in to the costs. We bought 5 bags of wild assorted bird seed for $6.99 a bag, and each bag has 40 pounds of seed! The seed was scattered all along my back yard. Because of the 200 pounds of seed, birds flocked from all around the area. It was great to have atleast 100+ birds at once. Mourning Doves and Common Grackles were most common, but Painted Buntings, Northern Cardinals, Boat-tailed Grackle, Blue Jays, Eurasian-collard Dove, Rock Pigeon White-winged Dove, and a Zebra Finch joined the party. Even though it was a litte too early for their present, I could not wait this time. Great day! Life is good... especially when I will spend Christmas in Pennsylvania to get some more life and year birds!
