For Miami area birders interested in looking for the Lapland Longspur, it is approximately a three hour drive from Miami International Airport.Arriving in Viera at 10:00 a.m.on our family's annual trek to Clermont for Thanksiving, it took almost two hours before locating the bird loafing in the grass in the N.E. corner of the North Click Pond. By then, my wife was threatening to leave me.......again, my two youngest threatened to run away........again, and my wife Pam's family was ready to disown me.......... again, for possibly holding up their Thanksgiving dinner. Undaunted, I would not let a few minor family problems get in the way of finding this nemesis bird for me, a lifer and Floridabird 402. Thanks go out to John Puschock for finding the bird and Sara Linney and Keith Gemeinhart for excellent directions. I truly have a lot to be thankful for. Life is good...................as I toasted to my good fortune with a Berlinger White Zinfandel. It was nice drinking a wine for a change without a twist-off cap.
