The lore over at the track is that the original stock came from Cuba.

The great Bob Allen (of Tavernier Science Center) wrote in Everglades Natural History, September 1954:
"The picture is fairly clear prior to 1931, when the first Hialeah birds were introduced from Cuba... Between 1902 and 1930, that is, before the Hialeah introductions were made, there are some 14 items in the literature concerning flamingos in Florida... The first group introduced in early 1931 was a shipment of 30..."

The flock was 753 when he wrote that!
