The beetle that typically shows up at this time of year is the Pyrophorus click beetle, but since you don't say anything about light organs on the pronotum, you're probably seeing something else.
If you can post pix or give some further details (body shape, antennae structure, tarsal shape, etc.) we'll make a guess.
