I went to Cape Florida to locate the Western Spindalis and the Orange Faced Prairie Warblers. I got a bit of a late start and didn't arrive at the park until 9:15.... I found Thor looking for the spindalis so I joined him for a little while and about 9:45 I heard the spindalis about 50' south of the strangler fig and the palm where it has been reported. It made a quick showing, maybe 1-2 minutes but kept it somewhat obscured. We all got satisfactory looks, but the photos were just OK.
I then went to see if I could locate the La Sagra's, but I had no luck with this year s nemesis bird for me. I did hear it call a couple of times between the bathroom and the intersection by the white gate.
I headed back to see if the spindalis would show again and took photos of the Orange Faced Prairie Warbler...
I wish I could get a copy of the article that Bill Pranty mentioned.... I looked online but didn't find it.
Anyway it was a fun morning looking at some pretty incredible birds and had some good company talking with Thor.
