Rock and I had quite a time sifting through the birds this evening. The trees would periodically come alive with the movement of foraging and flying Northern Parula. Most big trees had a Black-and-White Warbler circling the branches for food, and Palm Warblers littered the path. It was hard to estimate some of the numbers (and I was having too much fun to carefully count each bird). Here are my guesses from an hour of birding:
Northern Parula (190)
Black-and-white Warbler (32)
Palm Warbler (25)
Yellow-throated Warbler (6)
Prairie Warbler (4)
Yellow-rumped Warbler (3)
It's interesting to note the differences between what we saw and Cape Florida (approximately 11 miles to our NE). For starters, I didn't see a single Common Yellowthroat. Did that species hit in the morning and then take off by the evening, or did they just not hit the Palmetto Bay area?
What a fun day for birding!!
