Went this afternoon to Crandon Beach in search of the Great Black-Backed Gull, a bird I have seen in NY but never in Florida. I rarely birdwatch beaches. Happened to see one perched on a pole on the causeway before Crandon. Beautiful gull, I guess my favorite. At beach, for only half an hour, had:
Laughing Gull
Ring-Billed Gull
Lesser Black-backed Gull
Royal Tern
Brown Pelican
DC Cormorant
C. Ground Dove
Palm Warbler
Afterwards headed to Crandon Gardens, the former zoo grounds. Had never been there before but heard that it had many exotics/ferals. Place was like a small Fairchild Tropical Garden. Did see many exotics and oddly no Muscovies.
